Repairing your shoes with Duall-88 is safe and simple. Follow these three steps for a seal that won’t fail:
Clean the surfaces you’re joining with alcohol or RH Thinner. Lightly sand glossy areas for better grip.
Brush an even layer of Duall-88 on both surfaces. Let it sit until tacky (about 2 minutes).
Press the two surfaces together firmly. Apply even pressure to remove air bubbles. Remove excess adhesive with a compatible solvent. Let it bond for at least an hour before use.
How do I repair orthotics with Duall-88?
To fix damaged orthotics with Duall-88, follow these steps:
How much Duall-88 do I need for my repair?
Use 1 ounce for every square foot of leather you’re bonding. Measure your tear area and choose the appropriate size (4 oz. – 32 oz.). Small repairs take 1–2 ounces.
How long does Duall-88 take to dry?
Duall-88 is a contact cement, so the full-strength bond forms quickly. It generally is available for use within minutes.
How long do shoe repairs last?
The life of an adhesive repair can vary based on the location of the damage and how much movement it will experience. Routinely check the bonded area for wear and tear, and apply additional adhesive as needed.
Is Duall-88 waterproof?
Yes! The bonds created by Duall-88 resist moisture and can handle exposure to harsh weather conditions, making it ideal for orthotic and shoe repairs.
Can I use Duall-88 on other materials?
Yes! Duall-88 works on a variety of materials that include rubber, foams, fabrics and more.
Can I use Duall-88 on suede?
Suede can be a tricky material to bond. But with the right preparation, Duall-88 can get the job done. Suede can often soak up adhesive when applied for a repair, so multiple coats might be needed. Scuffing the bond area is also recommended to help Duall-88 form a stronger bond with the material.
Can I fix the inside of a shoe with Duall-88?
Yes! Duall-88 excels at bonding leather, but it also does a great job bonding other materials. Duall-88 can handle most materials commonly found on the inside of shoes.
Can I repair rubber soles with Duall-88?
Yes! Since Duall-88 is a neoprene-based adhesive, it does a great job bonding rubber to other materials. For especially tricky repair areas, scuffing the material is recommended to help the adhesive form a proper bond with the material.
Can I repair cracked leather with Duall-88?
Yes! Leather tends to break down and crack. Its natural oils evaporate, causing it to stiffen and weaken over time. Exposure to sunlight, heat, and dry air can cause cracking. Be sure to regularly treat your leather materials with oil to keep them well-maintained. Even if your leather is experiencing some cracking, Duall-88 still can form a proper bond.
